Advice for Parents of Learner Drivers

Advice for Parents

Learning to drive is a big moment in your teenager's life and is when they get their first taste of freedom - which can be scary for you as a parent as well! Making sure that he or she is a safe driver is probably top of your priority list and we're here to help make sure that happens.

Our approach is to spend more time driving (often more than 20 miles per lesson) and less time sitting at the side of the road to give your loved ones more driving experience as well as knowing all the theory they need (we also offer free loan of books to help with this as well).

The Cost

There's no way around it, learning to drive is expensive! Some schools offer very cheap introductory offers and then push the prices up later and cheap lessons may not offer the same driving experience as others. Since we spend the majority of the lesson driving, most of our students pass their practical test after just 30 hours, the average being around 40 hours - saving you money in the long run.

For even more money saving, we can we offer block booking discounts so that you can pre-pay a block of lessons and save money in the process. To help with payment we can also accept payment by cash, cheque and card (5% bank surcharge applies) and can arrange to collect payment in the evening at a time most convenient to you.

Insurance is very expensive for learner drivers, so you may find it is more cost effective to have extra lessons rather than to practice in a family car. Bad habits are also more likely to creep in if a pupil drives their own car.

How You Can Help

It is important to take an interest in how their lessons went, read handouts and help them study for their theory and practical tests - even quizzing them to see just how much they know (can be enlightening for the student as well as learning some new facts yourself!). It is up to the student to book their theory and practical tests so encouraging them to do this would also be very useful and help them pass sooner.
